Kick-off event ‘Charging infrastructure for electric vehicles as contribution to the energy transition’

The German federal government wants to futher expand the charging infrastructure for electric vehicles. The Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy is making €96 million available for the relevant funding programme that serves to integrate transport in the energy transition. This was flagged up by Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy Oliver Wittke today at the kick-off event ‘Charging infrastructure for electric vehicles’ in the context of the Immediate Action Programme for Clean Air 2017 - 2020.

“In the context of the Immediate Action Programme for Clean Air, we are providing support for the simultaneous use of many individual charging points for electric vehicles. For example, the integration of charging stations into the electricity grids is subject to scientific studies. Furthermore, the funding programme aims to create charging facilities for owners of private vehicles who do not have a parking space of their own and to encourage enterprises to build charging facilities for company cars and vehicles of their employees.”

The event provided an opportunity for representatives of leading research institutes, companies from the electric mobility sector and selected towns and cities to find out more about the activities in other towns and cities and in the context of other projects, to exchange views on implementation strategies and to network.

The major results obtained on the grid integration and the load management of the charging infrastructure and on the determination of air pollutant emissions will be the basis for an accelerated establishment of the charging infrastructure and thus for a quicker market ramp-up of electric mobility and a reduction of CO2 emissions.
