Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy Peter Altmaier today welcomed Vice President of the European Commission Maroš Šefčovič to exchange views on current economic-policy issues. The talks focused on the continuation of the Russia-Ukraine gas transit as from 1 January 2020, i.e. after the expiry of the current transit contract between Gazprom and Naftogaz.

Peter Altmaier said: “I very much welcome the fact that Vice President Maroš Šefčovič is committed to the continuation of the trilateral talks between the European Commission, Ukraine and Russia. Gas transit through Ukraine needs to be continued and secured after 2019. Germany will continue to make its contribution to the success of the talks.”
