German-Turkish Conference on Artificial Intelligence to be held at the Federal Economic Affairs Ministry

Federal Minister Peter Altmaier and the Minister of Industry and Technology of the Republic of Turkey, Mustafa Varank, are today hosting the German-Turkish Conference on Artificial Intelligence at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy in Berlin. The event will give high-ranking representatives from business and science the opportunity to share their views on the economic potential of artificial intelligence in business and on topics such as Industrie 4.0 and digital transformation.

Federal Minister Peter Altmaier said: “Artificial intelligence will change the way we live all over the world - it will change the way we produce, work, communicate and consume. In fact, Industry 4.0 innovations are already having an impact on value creation and cross-border value chains. International cooperation is therefore key to successfully advancing the digital transformation of the economy. For example, we need to work together at a global level when it comes to exchanging data or setting uniform standards. I am therefore pleased that we are discussing this topic today since it is also an important field of action for German-Turkish economic relations”.

Selected guests from both sides from the fields of AI, Industrie 4.0 and digital transformation will meet for a business-oriented roundtable discussion led by Parliamentary State Secretary Oliver Wittke. Keynote speakers will give insights into how to establish an economic policy environment that promotes AI and will provide information about industrial applications of AI. The participants of the event will exchange ideas on new business models, skills requirements in the context of Industrie 4.0 and on opportunities for international cooperation.

During the Federal Minister’s visit to Ankara with a business delegation last autumn, Minister Altmaier and Minister Varank agreed to work together to further develop the economic relations between Germany and Turkey. This collaboration also includes an in-depth exchange on the economic potential of artificial intelligence. In November 2018, the Federal Government adopted a national Artificial Intelligence Strategy.
