Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy Peter Altmaier and the French Minister of the Economy, Finance and Recovery, Bruno Le Maire, will meet today in Berlin.

With the agreement of EU leaders on an economic recovery package on 21 July, the European Union has shown the world its unity and solidarity. No Member State should be left behind in the economic recovery. The 750-billion-euro economic recovery package is based on a joint initiative of France and Germany. The good cooperation between the two countries has been instrumental in achieving this historic agreement.

The economic recovery is to be supported by ambitious national strategies coordinated between Member States on the basis of agreed investment and reform priorities. Following the meeting of German Chancellor Dr Angela Merkel and President Emmanuel Macron in Brégançon on 20 August, Minister Altmaier and Minister Le Maire will today discuss how Germany and France's national recovery and resilience plans can support each other and how their impact on economic recovery can be enhanced. In particular, they will discuss possible joint industrial and energy infrastructure projects that would accelerate the green and digital transformation of the European economies and strengthen competitiveness, innovation and resilience on a long-term basis.
