This year, the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy will award the German Business Film Prize for the 53rd time. Film entries can be submitted online from now until 7 June 2020.

Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy Peter Altmaier said: "The German cultural and creative industries are particularly hard hit by the economic impact of the coronavirus crisis. Many small businesses and micro-enterprises as well as the self-employed are experiencing major sales losses. At the same time, the creative industries have high potential for pointing up ways out of the crisis through new ideas and business models. In presenting our film award, we will once again draw attention to the creative and innovative potential of filmmakers this year and, in doing so, provide them with both direct and indirect financial support. We are expecting many entries in 2020 and are looking forward to receiving them!"

The German Business Film Award serves to promote audiovisual productions that highlight exciting aspects of the economy in the Federal Republic of Germany and bring them across to the public at large. Such productions allow people to see and experience the importance of the economy for Germany as a place for business and investment, as well as Germany’s high level of innovation. In this way, the medium of film fosters the (journalistic) transfer of knowledge about economic and political issues in German society. Furthermore, the competition contributes to the professionalisation of artists and creative people in the film industry.

In 2020, the competition’s concept was modified and streamlined. Awards will again be presented for outstanding cinematic performances in the following three categories:

(1) Economy well explained
(2) Economy well presented
(3) Newcomer films

The best films by young filmmakers will be awarded cash prizes totalling 20,000 euros.
