Federal Minister Peter Altmaier and Juan Carlos Jobet, the Chilean Minister for Energy, signed a declaration of intent on cooperation in the field of hydrogen today. A task force on hydrogen will be established in the context of the German-Chilean Energy Partnership, which was set up in 2019. The aim is to further intensify cooperation between the two countries to create an adequate environment for the establishment of a hydrogen industry and to identify specific joint flagship projects.

Federal Minister Altmaier said: "Green hydrogen is a key element to reach our climate targets. In addition to production in Germany and Europe, we also need international partnerships. We are therefore building up strategic partnerships with countries in which green hydrogen and its derivatives can be produced efficiently and at a low cost. We have been working closely together with Chile in this field since the beginning of our bilateral energy partnership in 2019. The first hydrogen project to be implemented in the context of the National Hydrogen Strategy with funds from the economic stimulus package is also being realised in Chile. We are therefore pleased to be able to further intensify the cooperation with an important international partner in this field."

The German-Chilean Energy Partnership was established in April 2019. It serves as a platform for the high-level political dialogue on energy transition between the two countries. Further information on the German-Chilean Energy Partnership can be found at https://www.energypartnership.cl/home/
