Starting today, own-account workers affected by the coronavirus pandemic can submit direct applications for New Start Assistance Plus for the funding period from October through December 2021 since the support instrument will be extended until the end of the year. The grant provides own-account workers with additional support of up to €4,500 for this period. Applications can be filed via the usual platform www.ueberbrueckungshilfe-unternehmen.de.The funding terms are also published on this website in comprehensive FAQs. The application process for the extended New Start Assistance Plus for corporations with several shareholders and cooperatives which submit applications via a scrutinising third party will be announced separately. These applications can be submitted as of the beginning of November.

The content of New Start Assistance Plus for the extended period until the end of the year is identical to New Start Assistance Plus granted for the period from July to September 2021 and provides the same favourable and proven funding conditions. As was the case with New Start Assistance, applications can be filed by own-account workers, irrespective of whether or not they are partners in a partnership, and by other groups of people, such as short-term employees in the performing arts sector and those in discontinuous employment. For self-employed people to be eligible for the grant, the self-employed activity must be their main occupation and they must employ no more than one person part time.

The extended New Start Assistance Plus is also paid out in advance. Applicants are required to prove the loss in turnover incurred in their final statements of account. They can keep their New Start Assistance Plus payment to the full amount if their turnover falls by more than 60% between July and September 2021/October and December 2021, compared to the 2019 reference turnover. If the loss in turnover is lower than that, the New Start Assistance Plus support will be reduced (pro rata) and, if applicable, a corresponding portion of it must be paid back by 30 September 2022.

Own-account workers who have already received New Start Assistance Plus for the months of July through September 2021 and need further assistance may submit a new application up to 31 December 2021 for the months of October through December 2021. This can be done very easily, i.e. if there were no further changes, all it takes is one mouse click in the online application system.

A piece of practical advice for applicants: It is important that the account number is entered correctly in the application and that it matches the account number on file with the tax office. Applications with a different account number will lead to questions by the approval bodies during the approval procedure, which begins at the end of the month, and consequently to delays in the payment of the grant. It is therefore recommended that applicants be particularly careful when entering their account number and enter the account number on file at the tax office.
