Economic Affairs Minister Peter Altmaier comments on the extension of the COVID-19 economic assistance agreed upon at yesterday’s Conference of Minister-Presidents as follows:

"I welcome the fact that the Conference of Minister-Presidents yesterday accepted my proposal to extend the COVID-19 economic assistance until the end of March 2022. This enables us to ensure that we can continue to grant assistance to companies and self-employed persons who are again facing turnover losses in view of the current serious situation in the pandemic."

Economic assistance granted since the beginning of the COVID-19 crisis has totalled around €126 billion. In addition, short-time work allowance amounting to a total of roughly €40 billion has been granted in the same period. This comprehensive assistance has helped to stabilise the economy and the labour market. Detailed information on assistance granted to date can be found here and here.
