The State Secretaries at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action Sven Giegold, Dr Patrick Graichen and Udo Philipp were officially appointed and took up their work on 15 December 2021. State Secretary Anja Hajduk and Parliamentary State Secretaries Dr Franziska Brantner, Michael Kellner and Oliver Krischer were appointed in the preceding week.

The responsibilities of the State Secretaries are as follows:

  • State Secretary Anja Hajduk is in charge of the Central Administration Directorate-General and the Directorate-General for Law and Security. Having overall responsibility in the Vice Chancellery at State Secretary level, she is also in charge of the coordination with the other Federal Ministries.
  • State Secretary Sven Giegold is responsible for European policy, economic policy, development policy in foreign trade and investment, SME policy, the human-centred economy and controls for exports of military equipment. 
  • State Secretary Udo Philipp is responsible for the Economic Stabilisation Fund (WSF), industrial policy, digital and innovation policy, the dossiers of foreign trade and investment and financing for SMEs and startups.

As regards the Parliamentary State Secretaries, Dr Franziska Brantner is in charge of European economic, industrial and trade policy and digital and innovation policy. Michael Kellner is responsible for economic policy, SME policy, the transformation of the industrial sector and structural and regional policy, especially in eastern Germany. Oliver Krischer is in charge of energy and climate policy issues.
