Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action Robert Habeck will travel to Paris today for talks with the French Minister of Economy and Finance Bruno Le Maire and the Minister for the Ecological Transition Barbara Pompili. The focus will be on the priorities of the French Presidency of the Council of the EU, the EU’s Fit for 55 Package, cooperation in the field of industrial policy and efforts to strengthen Europe’s digital and strategic sovereignty.

Federal Minister Habeck said: “Europe must be able to shape the digital world in a self-determined manner. This is why Germany and France are working together closely on a joint European project on cloud infrastructures. Germany is making available some €750 million for this purpose. We have already got twelve Member States on board. What we want is a flagship project for Europe in the field of digital and industrial policy and an investment campaign to strengthen the EU’s strategic sovereignty. I am very grateful to the French Council Presidency for prioritising this important topic.”

Tackling the green and digital transition requires an ambitious policy framework and a pathway for innovation. IPCEIs (Important Projects of Common European Interest) provide an opportunity to stimulate innovation in key enabling technologies in Europe. Germany and France are working together closely to this end.
