Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action Robert Habeck met with representatives of the Energy Efficiency Alliance for the third time today. The focus of the meeting was on measures to improve energy conservation and energy efficiency in order to keep coping well with the ongoing energy crisis.

Minister Habeck said: "The fact that we currently have a stable gas supply situation is the result of strong joint efforts by companies, municipalities, consumers and political decision-makers. Many have been saving as much gas as possible. In addition, municipalities, associations, consumer centres and municipal utilities have been providing a broad range of information about energy efficiency. Thanks to the way people have pulled together, we have been able to achieve major savings. But we must continue to save energy, especially in the cold months, as we still need to prevent a gas shortage."

At today’s meeting, the partners of the Alliance reaffirmed their support for energy conservation and reported on their own broad range of activities and initiatives. Furthermore, they discussed the coming winter and the structural tasks. The Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action is working on the general improvement of energy efficiency. There are, for example, plans for a bonus for the modernisation of old, non-insulated buildings with low energy performance certificate levels in line with the principle "Worst first" and for a skills development campaign in the field of heat pumps.

The members of the Energy Efficiency Alliance, i.e. social partners, business, environment and consumer associations, and the umbrella associations of municipalities first met in June and jointly called for efforts to save energy, including inititatives of their own.
