ELEKTRA is the name of the first-ever inland-waterway vessel to be powered by a fully electric hybrid engine consisting of fuel cells and accumulators. ELEKTRA is to demonstrate that emissions-free transport of goods on waterways is possible. The innovative push boat is being tested in regional transport in Berlin and Brandenburg, and from there for interregional transport up to Hamburg. Parallel to this, studies are being conducted to see what infrastructure would be needed to supply this kind of boat with electricity and hydrogen. For this project, the Technical University of Berlin has partnered up with several companies from the logistics sector and the hydrogen technology industry. The Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport is providing around €8 million in funding for the project.
