The funding order of up to €1.5 mln for the hydrogen/power-to-x (PtX) plant "Element One" handed over to thyssenkrupp AG on 16 December 2020 supports the construction of an electrolyser of 20 megawatts (12 tonnes of methanol per day) in the model region "NEOM" in Saudi Arabia.

This funding supported thyssenkrupp's successful application for the construction of one of the largest hydrogen plants in the world to date: By 2025, the "Helios" industrial production plant for green hydrogen and ammonia is to be built in the model region "NEOM" in the north of Saudi Arabia. It is to have a capacity of 650 tonnes of green hydrogen and 3000 tonnes of ammonia per day based on 4 gigawatts of solar and wind energy. The ammonia produced is to be exported to the world market. The investment volume of the "Helios" hydrogen production plant amounts to over €6 bln.
