PtX Lab Lausitz is to help commerce and society on the path to greenhouse gas neutrality. The aim is to facilitate the market ramp-up of environmentally compatible and sustainable production and use of power-to-X (PtX) products.

As a practical lab for fuels and basic materials produced from green hydrogen, PtX Lab Lausitz studies technological developments and the economic, policy, regulatory and ecological environment for the market ramp-up of sustainable and resource-efficient PtX products. The construction and operation of a PtL demonstration facility in the Lausitz area is also planned with a view to showcasing the potential offered by PtX technology. In this way, the Lausitz area (Lusatia) can become a model region for PtX in Germany and a post-fossil energy region of the future. The initial focus is on synthetic fuels (power-to-liquid, PtL) for air and maritime transport, based on green hydrogen. The direct use of electricity generated from renewable energy in air and maritime transport in particular is impossible or only possible to a very limited extent. In these sectors, PtX products and technologies are the only climate-friendly and sustainable alternative to fossil fuel.
