• Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK)
  • Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF)
  • Deadline: Project outlines are submitted in three rounds of funding (submission deadlines 31 October 2021, 31 December 2021, 28 February 2022).
  • The funded projects must be finished operationally by the end of 2027.

The funding guideline sets up an offer of support for international projects (outside the EU and the EFTA countries) to build production plant for green hydrogen and its derivatives and for the storage, transport and integrated use of hydrogen and accompanying research projects in line with the National Hydrogen Strategy. This is intended to give effective support to the urgently needed market ramp-up of hydrogen and its derivatives, to accelerate the establishment of an international market for these products and thus to help attain the climate targets and to boost the economy. The funding programme is to encourage the establishment of trade relations with potential exporters of green hydrogen and its derivatives. International, interdisciplinary and innovative projects are to be promoted under existing funding guidelines. Here, Module 1 focuses on projects in the field of industrial application and experimental development; Module 2 addresses associated projects in the fields of basic research and industrial research, scientific studies and training measures.
