‘Regulatory Sandboxes for the Energy Transition’ is a pillar in the context of the 7th Energy Research Programme; supplementing basic and applied research, it particularly aims to trial and further develop innovative technologies in a real-life environment and on an industrial scale. In the regulatory sandboxes, project partners are taking a holistic approach to testing new technologies and business models in real-life conditions. Regulatory Sandboxes for the Energy Transition generally start at TRL 6-7 and range up to TRL 8-9. They are thus close to the market and highly mature. The funding concept is technology-neutral and can therefore embrace regulatory sandboxes in all research fields covered by BMWK funding under the 7th Energy Research Programme. Outlines can be submitted on an ongoing basis.
