  • Deadlines: Project outlines in the priority areas of the general funding announcement can be submitted at any time. Further to this, the BMWK occasionally publishes offers like calls for applications for funding or competitions for ideas on specific research fields and priorities. These will be subject to specific submission deadlines.

The funding covers project-related activities in the field of research, development and innovation. The focus here is on industrial research and experimental development, including demonstration, of energy technologies. The benchmark for the categorisation is the technology readiness level (TRL). The funding covers technologies at TRL 3-8. In order to speed up technology transfer, innovations with a clear reference to the energy sector are eligible for funding in the form of environmental aid, going beyond R&D projects, up to TLR 9, primarily for facilities in Regulatory Sandboxes for the Energy Transition. The funding announcement covers four priority areas: energy transition in the consumption sectors, energy generation, system integration and cross-system research issues. There is a focus on research activities relating to hydrogen technology.
