  • Deadlines: The funding of research and development projects takes place in the context of the 6th National Civil Aviation Research Programme – call for applications for funding (LuFo VI-3), expected to be published in spring 2022. The deadline for applications under LuFo VI-2 was 8 January 2021.

Novel aircraft configurations in the field of electric or hybrid-electric drives can clearly cut emissions and noise. These technologies can make it possible to design environmentally compatible and commercially successful air transport for the future. For this reason, work is being done to develop fully electrical and hybrid-electrical drives in the Aviation Research Programme. A special focus here in the Aviation Research Programme is being placed on the use of hydrogen, which can be deployed in many ways in the aircraft. Both direct combustion in gas turbines to generate thrust and the additional use for cooling in hybrid-electric architectures form key elements of the funded research projects.
