Second call for applications issued as part of the funding guideline for the funding of commercial vehicles with alternative climate-friendly propulsion systems and the associated refuelling and charging infrastructure (KsNI). The second call for applications will include an additional call for special-purpose vehicles and the associated infrastructure.

  • Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV)
  • Deadline: 24 August 2022

The second call for applications is part of the ‘guideline for the funding of light and heavy-duty commercial vehicles with alternative climate-friendly propulsion systems and the deployment of refuelling and charging infrastructure for electric commercial vehicles’ (KsNI). The second call for applications includes an additional call for special-purpose vehicles and infrastructure. The funding measure aims at promoting the use of alternative propulsion systems in road haulage as a means to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The second call for applications and the special call serve three objectives:

  • Providing funding for the purchase of new alternative, climate-friendly commercial vehicles of EC vehicle categories N1, N2 and N3 and funding for commercial vehicles retrofitted with alternative propulsion systems of EC vehicle categories N2 and N3 at 80% of additional investment expenditure compared with conventional diesel vehicles. The funding is awarded as project funding on a pro-rata basis. The financial aid will be awarded as a non-repayable grant, with a cap on additional investment expenditure. The level of the cap that applies is set out in the current call for applications and the special call.
  • Providing funding for the refuelling and charging infrastructure required for operating climate-friendly commercial vehicles covering 80% of the eligible project-related total cost.
  • Providing funding for conducting feasibility studies on the possible use of climate-friendly commercial vehicles and for deploying and/or expanding the associated infrastructure at 50% of the eligible project-related cost.
