Funding goes towards projects aimed at developing innovative biotechnical procedures for the conversion of CO2 or C1 compounds derived from it for industrial use.

  • Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF)
  • Deadline: 11 January 2023

Funding goes towards research, development and innovation projects (R&D&I) focusing on the latest biotechnological procedures and processes for using CO2 and other C1 compounds (chemical compounds featuring one carbon atom) as sustainable sources of carbon for producing high-quality chemicals.

The R&D&I projects are to help make decisive progress towards putting these biotechnological procedures and processes into industrial practice. Preference will thus be given to projects under the lead responsibility of industrial operators. All projects are expected to have at least one or several practice-oriented industrial partners on board. Once the project phase is over, the projects are expected to bring to scale the biotechnological process they have developed (for example in the form of a demonstration plant).

The funding measure is thus making an important contribution to achieving the goals set out under the National Bioeconomy Strategy. By including the use of green hydrogen as a feedstock, the funding measure is also contributing to implementing the National Hydrogen Strategy. The funding measure helps further the goals set out under the National Sustainable Development Strategy and the Research for Sustainability Strategy (FONA strategy), thus making progress towards achieving the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals.
