The D-Mark becomes legal tender in the western occupation zones and western sectors of Berlin in 1948. Every citizen receives a pay-out of 40 DM. The window displays are full again following the monetary reform. In the Soviet occupation zone, the so-called "Ost Mark", later known as the "Mark of the GDR", is launched at the end of 1948.
