Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action Robert Habeck discussed the expansion of renewable energy with the Energy Ministers of the Länder in a video conference this afternoon. The consultations focused both on the measures to accelerate the expansion of renewable energy which have already been adopted and on additional acceleration measures. One example is the implementation of the EU Emergency Regulation adopted by the Federal Cabinet, which serves to further accelerate procedures for the expansion of onshore and offshore wind energy, offshore connection lines and electricity grids.

Federal Minister Robert Habeck said: "Last year, our resolute action made the situation on the energy markets manageable. Germany showed what it is capable of. The Länder have helped to save energy and to further expand renewable energy. I am very grateful to all parties involved. In 2023, we intend to vigorously continue on this dynamic path and to jointly further accelerate the procedures for the expansion of renewable energy. Today, everyone agreed that we need to work together at federal, regional and municipal level to be successful. And it is also clear that renewable energy has long become a key factor for the economy."

In 2022, we saw fresh dynamism in the expansion of renewable energy. On the one hand, the expansion made visible progress; the share of electricity consumption covered by renewable energy increased. The 2022 interim targets of the applicable RES Act were attained. On the other hand, the right policies were put in place at national and EU level in 2022 to considerably accelerate the expansion of renewable energy. Last year, the Federal Government adopted a number of acceleration measures. Some of them have a direct impact, others need to be implemented in the procedures at regional and municipal level. You can find an overview of the acceleration measures in the field of energy (in German) here.
