Federal Minister Robert Habeck will be participating in the Brazilian-German intergovernmental consultations in Berlin today. He will be holding bilateral talks with Brazil’s Minister of Finance and Trade Fernando Haddad and Minister of Industry and Commerce Marcio Rosa. The focus of the talks will be on current trade issues and the challenges which Germany and Brazil are both facing in view of climate change.

Federal Minister Habeck said: "Brazil has been Germany’s largest trading partner in South America for many years. We want to further expand our economic relations. Brazil offers many opportunities as a hub for green investment. German companies can contribute to the diversification of their supply chains by investing, for example, in the processing of raw materials in the country."

Ministers Habeck and Haddad will in future regularly exchange views on challenges related to the ecological transition, the decarbonisation of industry and its implementation.

The items on the agenda of the consultations also include (1) closer cooperation on environmentally friendly and sustainable extraction and processing of raw materials between the Economic Affairs Ministry and the Brazilian Mining Ministry, (2) the cooperation between the German Aerospace Center (DLR) and Brazil’s aeronautics institute, and (3) the cooperation between the German National Metrology Institute (PTB) and its Brazilian counterpart.
