Vice Chancellor and Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action Robert Habeck is visiting Algeria together with a business delegation from 7 to 8 February 2024. His visit to Africa’s largest country aims to strengthen the bilateral cooperation on the expansion of renewable energy and the establishment of a green hydrogen industry. During his visit, Federal Minister Habeck will be holding bilateral talks with Algeria’s President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Minister of Energy and Mining Mohamed Arkab and Minister of Industry and Pharmaceutical Production Ali Aoun. The visit also focuses on the roundtable on the southern H2 corridor in the context of the German-Algerian Energy Partnership, which will be attended by the Minister and by German and Algerian business representatives. The aim of the H2 corridor project is to facilitate hydrogen imports via pipelines from Algeria and Tunisia to Italy, Austria and Germany.

Federal Minister Habeck said: Gemany and Algeria are linked by a long tradition of stable energy and economic relations. My visit to Algeria is taking place at an important time for the country and the region in political and economic terms. There is enormous potential for the production of sustainable energy and for a climate-friendly transformation in the largest African country – in the immediate vicinity of Europe. German companies can be important partners and help Algeria to diversify its economy and make it fit for the future and to create new jobs.
