The Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action has honoured eight companies as Companies for Climate Action. These companies have set an example through their ambitious efforts in the field of energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy. Through their hard work in the field of corporate climate action, the new Companies for Climate Action are making an important contribution to the attainment of the climate goals as pioneers in their respective industries. The eight companies were selected from around 200 applications by the advisory board of Klimaschutz-Unternehmen e.V., a cross-sectoral network of German companies which is committed to achieving Germany’s climate targets through innovation, and involved a multi-stage process. The Initiative for Excellence for Companies for Climate Action now has a total of 69 members.

Stefan Wenzel, Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, said: The Companies for Climate Action are showing through many examples that investments in climate action pay off both ecologically and economically. In this way, companies are preparing themselves for the future and are actively contributing to climate change mitigation. The large number of applications shows that climate action is and remains an important topic among businesses and many companies of all sizes operating in Germany are considering how they can make their contribution to climate neutrality.

Jörg Schmidt, CEO of Klimaschutz-Unternehmen said: In order to drive forward the green transformation of our economy, we need companies that are resolutely leading the way towards climate neutrality. It is precisely such pioneers that encourage and motivate others to follow their example. I am very pleased that the group of Companies for Climate Action is continuously growing and that we are able to welcome eight new members to our association today. The best practices of our members show very clearly what can be achieved through corporate climate action.

The companies honoured are pursuing very ambitious and comprehensive climate action strategies and energy efficiency measures. They excel through forward-looking investments in renewable energy, innovative projects in the field of the circular economy and strong sustainability communication and are committed to transformation-oriented development.
