The Export Initiative for Civil Security Technologies and Services is a focal point of the Federal Economic Affairs Ministry’s industrial policy concept entitled “The Future Civil Security Market”. Its aim is to strengthen the competitiveness and economic performance of companies in the German security industry. The export initiative primarily seeks to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in opening up foreign markets and to raise the profile of German security technologies and services outside of Germany.

The initiative organises information events in Germany about specific countries as well as fact-finding and matchmaking missions to interesting target markets and information trips by foreign decision-makers to Germany. It also supports showcasing events where German security technologies and services are presented in selected target countries. Here, the export initiative uses the modular system of the market entry programme.

The selection of relevant target markets is based not solely on commercial aspects, but also takes security policy considerations into account. Alongside the general market potential, which derives from the growth capacity of the target markets, the potential contribution that may be made by German security technologies and services to improve the security situation and the level of protection plays an important role. Local project-related activities which require a high degree of systems integration capability are also of major importance. These include, for example, large-scale infrastructure (construction of airports, ports, railways, energy supply systems, etc.) and large social events (e.g. large sports events).
