Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) which offer climate-friendly energy technologies on foreign markets can now apply for funding for their marketing activities. The aim of the funding is to help them gain a foothold on foreign markets.

The funding programme is part of the Energy Export Initiative of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK), which has launched a new application round for the current Renewable Energy Solutions Programme (RES Programme).

Funding is provided for the establishment of demonstration and reference installations to demonstrate the capabilities of the respective climate-friendly energy technology. The companies themselves are responsible for providing the installations and equipment, and this then forms the basis for successful marketing. Funding is provided to the respective company for training measures, the provision of information, and public relations work. The federal funding totals up to €100,000 per project.

The deadline for applications for the 2023 Renewable Energy Solutions Programme (RES Programme) is 30 March 2023. Applicants, primarily small and medium-sized enterprises, can submit proposals for projects in the fields of renewable energy, energy efficiency, smart grids or energy storage systems, and hydrogen and fuel cell technologies. The marketing concept must take account of the special features of both the respective technology and the selected target market.

Exportinitiative Energie (Energy Export Initiative)

In the context of the Energy Export Initiative, the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action helps providers of climate-friendly energy solutions enter new foreign markets with the aim to position German technologies and expertise around the world. The focus is on the fields of renewable energy, energy efficiency, smart grids and storage systems, and technologies including power-to-gas and fuel cells. The Initiative is primarily addressed to small and medium-sized enterprises. It helps companies participating in the programme by means of market preparation measures to explore, enter and secure markets.
