Practical example and current challenges

  • Germany is facing a major challenge in the care sector due to demographic change: In the next 30 years, the proportion of people in need of care will be increasing by almost twice as much. At the same time, the number of trained qualified care professionals and the number of doctors in the care sector is stagnating.
  • This makes it increasingly difficult to guarantee self-determined, high-quality care and health care. A paradigm shift is therefore urgently needed.
  • Numerous care technologies have been developed in recent years. However, there is still a lack of innovative networking of the technologies and their consistent implementation. A fundamental prerequisite is the digital networking of the players, data and services.

What added value does the "GAIA-X project" offer?

  • GAIA-X can help to implement the project and ensure secure access and data exchange across different clouds, as well as assign different access and usage rights to responsible persons by means of central identity and access management.
  • GAIA-X specifically supports the emergence of ecosystems from such platforms, where different actors can meet and exchange ideas. This creates added value for all parties involved. For providers, new, more agile market accesses are created, and for customers, more transparent and better accesses to healthcare services are created. In addition, existing resources in the health system can be better exploited in the market.
  • The integration of cloud storage in Germany as GAIA-X nodes allows the storage of sensitive data in the supply chain.
